Between the Keys was created through the University of Western Ontario in 2013. The members began playing as an independent group seeking out performances ranging from coffee houses to private functions. The musical talents of Between the Keys soon became evident and the group was selected to be a part of the prestigious Chamber Performance Program at the University of Western Ontario.
Under the instruction of virtuoso jazz saxophonist, Barry Usher, the group propelled to success seeking performances across London. Between the Keys have been featured on the CHRW Sketches in C radio show, and have appeared as the musical guests at various private and public functions including: The UWO Swing Association Final Gala, The Grosvenor Lodge Grand Opening, the Waltzing Weasel, The Jack Richardson Awards Show, The Wine and Food Show, The London Bridal Show and many more.
Although the group has since evolved and changed personnel over the years, Between the Keys continues to perform regularly within the community as a trio, thanks to continued support from the London Arts Live Initiative. Between the Keys cites musical inspiration from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Norah Jones, Duke Ellington, Ed Bickert, John Scofield, and Wes Montgomery; performing a variety of jazz genres from stripped down early blues to big band style arrangements, to laid back modern jazz and re-arranged Top 20’s.
